Formed in 2017, the Whiteknights Ensemble is a chamber group comprising musicians from a number of local orchestras. While the original members made up a wind quintet the ensemble has grown to enable a greater variety of repertoire!
The ensemble is based in Earley, Reading, and takes its name from Whiteknights Park, the manorial land of the De Erleigh family, now the campus of the University of Reading.

In a break away from our ensemble's traditional wind quintet repertoire, we invited local string players to join our clarinettist, Sarah Barrett, for the beautiful Brahms Clarinet Quintet plus a wonderful string arrangement of Finzi's Five Bagatelles.
Our oboist, Mildred Burchett-Vass, and pianist, John Sayer, also introduced us to the British composer Michael Hurd through his Concerto da Camera for oboe and orchestra.

A huge thank you to everyone who came to our concert yesterday evening. We raised an amazing £527.83 through tickets and refreshment donations and were also given £500 from a corporate social responsibility programme so our grand fundraising total is an amazing £1027.83 for First Days Children’s Charity.
Since 2017, despite an interruption due to Covid-19, the ensemble has raised over £3,000 for local charities performing in three different venues.
